This item is a necessary part in creating Perfection-Enhancing Gearbox, which is an absolutely necessary item in strengthening the player's Hearth of Azeroth.
The Progression Sprocket itself, can be obtained from King Mechagon, where it has quite a decent drop-chance, even in Heroic. In Mystic level dungeon, it is even rumoured to be a guaranteed drop with its rate of appearance approaching 100%.
Moreover, there are no daily, weekly or monthly limits on how many of those you can obtain, so you can farm those to your heart's contents.
