WoW TBC Classic Enchanting guide
WoW TBC Classic Enchanting guide
Greetings, Hero of Azeroth, to this yet another guide in our series of the Burning Crusade Classic profession guides. This guide is in some ways similar to the Classic guide we have presented, however, there are some differences meant to optimize the levelling experience for the new stage, as well as the elements which have been added to the game in The Burning Crusade expansion as well as different changes which we are going to explain in detail later in the guide.
To begin with, we would like to offer some advice for those who might be considering enchanting as their profession of choice. First of all, you have to be mindful of the fact that enchanting is not an easy profession to level-up, due to the fact that the materials required for the enchanting recipes come from disenchanting, which has been further changed in TBC so in some ways it’s even more difficult now, especially if you pick it up later. Disenchanting is an ability that you acquire when you learn Enchanting. Using it, the player can get enchanting reagents – dusts, essences, shards, and crystals, which are used for all recipes. However, the problematic part is that the item which is being disenchanted is destroyed in the process. Hence, although, it gives you a way to deal with all the trash items, it also means that you are disposing of potentially valuable items, and as such leveling-up this profession as you level-up your character might be difficult.
Hence, a frequent pairing for enchanting is Tailoring, since it is yet another profession, like Enchanting, which doesn’t need any additional gathering profession. Furthermore, it while you are working on your Tailoring skill, you are going to obtain a lot of green items from your crafting which can be safely disenchanted, and the reagents used can be utilized in Enchanting.
There are, generally speaking, no better or worse races or classes, however, blood elves get a little head start with their racial bonus of +10 Enchanting skill, but that should not really be taken into consideration since it is not a big boost for any player who considers his profession choices. Other than that, cloth wearers are recommended to pick-up enchanting since this, coupled with Tailoring can benefit them best, as well as the fact that the wands made by enchanters provide some assistance while leveling your character.
As for enchanting itself, it is a very profitable and important profession, since it is indispensable for any players who wish to progress in raiding and other end-game content. That is due to the ability to cast powerful enchantments on gear which allow to draw the full potential of the character and items. Moreover, in TBC there have been some changes, the main one being the introduction of ring enchants, which can only be used by enchanters themselves. What is more, they require the user to have an active enchanting profession, so you cannot enchant your rings and then unlearn enchanting, since this will render the buff ineffective.
Another change from Classic, is the introduction of level requirements for disenchanting. Before, you could have disenchanted any item regardless of the level of your Enchanting skill or the item. However, now a certain level is required. As such if you would like to disenchant an item with a requirement of level 60, you would need at least 225 level enchanting. The well-known formula to calculate the necessary skill level is as follows:
- To round up the number representing the required level to use the item to a multiple of 5.
- Afterwards, increase it 5 times.
- Deduct 75.
The result of this calculation is the required level of enchanting that you ought to have in order to disenchant the item.
New elements and reagents were also obviously introduced for the new stage. First of all, three new enchanting rods were introduced, these are necessary to perform certain levels of enchantment, similarly to classic, and all of them require rods made by blacksmiths. These are:
Runed Fel Iron Rod, which is needed at the start for recipes between level 290-350. Runed Adamantite Rod, which is required for recipes above level 350, as well as Prismatic Sphere, which needs this rod, even though it is a 325-level recipe. Runed Eternium Rod, which is needed for formulas at level 375.
What is more, as we have mentioned before, new materials were also introduced to the game, similarly to their own rarity, these come from disenchanting uncommon, rare, and epic items:
Arcane Dust Lesser Planar Essence Greater Planar Essence Small Prismatic Shard Large Prismatic Shard Void Crystal
Enchanting in The Burning Crusade also uses other reagents, namely, Primals, such as
Do also remember that unlike retail version of the game, in TBC it is still necessary to apply enchantments directly for other players, using the Will Not Be Traded window, since originally the scrolls used to sell enchantments on the Auction House were introduced in WotLK, these are not likely to be introduced yet at this stage of the game.
WoW TBC Classic Enchanting leveling guide
To begin with this WoW TBC Classic Enchanting guide, we have, as always, tried to make it the cheapest and fastest it could be, without compromising any of the aforementioned characteristics. Hence, it ought to be quite affordable to follow through it on most servers, even if you decide to buy the necessary materials from the Auction House. However, do mind the fact that server economies differ, so we cannot accommodate for every single one of them, as well as certain changes that are bound to occur at different stages of the game.
It is important to note that, as you may see, when you open the Enchanting window, the recipes are going to be shown in different colors – orange, yellow, green, and gray. These indicate how likely you are to get a skill-up upon completing the recipe – from the first one which guarantees an increase in skill points, to the last one which means that you are not gaining any experience from crafting this recipe.
Generally, it is optimal to craft only orange recipes all the time. However, that is not possible, or even more so, not feasible or profitable. Hence, the numbers and amounts you see in this guide are not going to always be precise and you may need to get a few more reagents depending on how lucky you get.
Now without further ado, the leveling process for levels 1-300 has not changed much with the coming of The Burning Crusade, except for the aforementioned changes, as well as the change introduced to trainers that we have mentioned in the last section of this guide, so if you have not yet achieved that level, we recommend you check out our Classic guide here: WOW classic Enchanting guide: leveling, trainer. Now for the leveling process from 300 to 375 and the WoW TBC Classic Enchanting guide.
First of all, enchanting has a bit of a problematic start, since there is a gap of five points, because you need to be at least at skill level 305 to learn any TBC recipes. To bridge this gap, you are going to need a few classic ingredients, so you can prepare them beforehand.
First things first, after learning master enchanting, you want to make a
While you don’t need it exactly at the start, it gives you one skill point, and it is going to be absolutely necessary once you get to 305, so essentially the third step in this WoW TBC Classic Enchanting guide.
Afterward, the to finish bridging the gap you should make 4
- 8 Illusion Dust
Having got to the 305-skill point mark, it’s time to switch to actual TBC enchanting and Outland reagents. First, you want to make 5
Next, you can choose between making
Following this, you now want to switch to making Enchant Chest - Major Spirit, until you get to level 340. This might require a little more than 20, since the recipe becomes yellow at 330, but it still is the most optimal way, so don’t be surprised. Each one requires:
Having done that, you should now either make some

The reagents necessary to make the Rod are:
- 8
Greater Planar Essence - 8
Large Prismatic Shard - 1
Primal Might - 1
Adamantite Rod, which has to be purchased from a blacksmith - 1
Runed Fel Iron Rod
This item is going to be necessary to follow the next steps of this WoW TBC Classic Enchanting guide, so make sure to get it done as soon as possible.
Having done that, you want to go back to making some more
Alternatively, you can also make some
For the last step, to get to level 375, you want to make some Ring Enchants, these require you to have the required reputation, but they are high-level and have rather low material requirements. The options are as follows:
- Enchant Ring – Spellpower, which requires you to be Honored with the Keepers of Time. The materials required are: 2
Large Prismatic Shard and 2 Greater Planar Essence. - Enchant Rind – Stats, which is a reputation recipe from Lower City. The reagents required here are: 2
Void Crystal and 2 Large Prismatic Shard. - Enchant Ring – Striking, which can be purchased from The Consortium if you are Revered with them. The cost of making a single enchantment is: 6
Arcane Dust and 2 Large Prismatic Shard.
Assuming you have followed all the above-mentioned steps, you should be now a proud master of enchanting. Congratulations on completing out WoW TBC Classic Enchanting guide and have fun with your newly acquired profession.
Enchanting Trainer
One of the important things to remember when it comes to professions is that they also have certain ranks, these are: Apprentice, Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan, and now the new Outland Enchanting rank – Master, which is going to require visiting special trainers to obtain. This will be especially important if you want to follow our WoW TBC Classic Enchanting guide since during the leveling of the profession you do need to upgrade these ranks in order to be able to gain more skill as well as learn new recipes.
Moreover, another big change in this part is that you can now learn your classic enchanting, you no longer need to visit Annora in Uldaman, any trainer can now get you to Artisan level, which makes it quite a bit easier to that last part done.
The new trainers added in the Burning Crusade are:
- Nahogg, who can be found in Exodar, at 40.6, 39.0
- Sedana, located in Silvermoon City at 70.0, 24.6
Moreover, to learn Master Enchanting between level 300-375, you will need to visit one of those new trainers:
- Johan Barnes, in Honor Hold, Hellfire Peninsula, who is the Outland Enchanting trainer for the Alliance.
- Felannia, in Thrallmar, Hellfire Peninsula, who helps the Horde players learn their enchanting skills.
- High Enchanter Bardolan, in Shattrath City, who is a neutral trainer available to both sides of the conflict.
- Asarnan in Stormspire, Netherstorm who is one more neutral trainer in Outland.
